Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellowships

The William & Eva Fox Foundation and Theatre Communications Group established the Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellowships as a two-year pilot program to support both emerging and established actors.

The Fox Fellowships program seeks to further an actor's artistic and professional development, to deepen and enrich his/her relationship with a not-for-profit theater, to ensure his/her continued professional commitment to live theater, and to encourage actors to work outside their comfort zone.

The fellowships are awarded to actors in two categories — Extraordinary Potential, for early to mid-career actors who have completed their training within the last fifteen years; and Distinguished Achievement, for actors who have demonstrated considerable experience in professional theater, with a substantial body of work.

The program will bestow a total of five fellowships per year in both categories. Recipients in the Extraordinary Potential category will receive $15,000, with an additional $10,000 available to relieve student loan debt. Recipients in the Distinguished Achievement category will receive $25,000. The host theater will receive $7,500 to be applied to costs incurred in the actor's residency activities.

Film Festival Grants

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for its Film Festival Grants program for nonprofit film festivals in the United States that will take place during the 2011 calendar year. Film festivals are encouraged to submit proposals that make festival events more accessible to the general public, provide greater access to minority and less visible filmmakers, and help strengthen the connection between the filmmaker and the public.

Only festivals based in the United States that have held at least five festivals as of December 31, 2009, are eligible to apply this year. Individual festivals are not allowed to receive grants in successive years. Festivals that do not screen films in a theatrical setting are not eligible to apply.

Eligible film festivals may apply for grants at four funding levels ranging from $2,500 to $30,000, depending on the cash budget of the festival. Grant requests must target one or more concrete elements within the festival. No grants will be awarded for general support.

Jazz NEXT

The Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation is accepting applications for the second round of its Jazz.NEXT grant program.

Developed in partnership with the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Jazz.NEXT is designed to test substantive and innovative projects that utilize technology to improve communications with existing audiences and engage new constituents, distribute the work of jazz artists to a broader public, and connect the disparate members of the jazz field into a more cohesive and effective community better equipped to face current and future challenges.

Round II of the program will provide support for the implementation of innovative, fully developed plans that incorporate technology to address audience development, communications, distribution, marketing, and network building. Grants may support projects that are new to the grantees or clearly represent taking their current technology efforts to the next level of development in order to advance their proposed concepts rather than simply maintaining or modifying them.

To be eligible, the applicant must be a jazz artist who is a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization (or an organization with an eligible fiscal sponsor) with a history of programming jazz or providing services to jazz artists or jazz organizations. Applicants must have demonstrated some prior experience working with technology applications in addressing audience development, communications, creation and presentation, marketing and promotion, networking, or other capacity-building endeavors.

Cultural Exchange Fund Travel Awards

The Cultural Exchange Fund, a travel subsidy program supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and administered by the Association of Performing Arts Presenters, assists United States-based presenters in building partnerships and collaborations with international touring artists, companies, and their collaborators and in seeing the work of artists from around the world in its appropriate cultural context.

Arts Presenters will award travel subsidies to individual presenters, presenting organizations, and to groups of presenters traveling to see the work of artists, companies, and/or to develop and advance projects with international artists and their collaborators. All applicants must be active members of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters. In promoting cross-cultural arts programming, Arts Presenters strongly encourages travel to locations including, but not limited to, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Africa.

Arts Presenters will fund individual travel subsidies as well as group travel subsidies. The maximum amount awarded per individual organization, inclusive of travel costs and per diem, is $2,000 each. Group travel subsidies will be awarded only to groups of three or more presenters from different member presenting organizations. The maximum award for a group is $10,000 each, with no more than $2,000 awarded per organization.

Arts in Education Model Development

The Arts in Education Model Development and Dissemination (AEMDD) Program supports the enhancement, expansion, documentation, evaluation, and dissemination of innovative, cohesive models that are based on research and have demonstrated that they effectively--(1) Integrate standards-based arts education into the core elementary and middle school curriculum; (2) strengthen standards-based arts instruction in these grades; and (3) improve students' academic performance, including their skills in creating, performing, and responding to the arts. Projects funded through the AEMDD Program are intended to increase the amount of nationally available information on effective models for arts education that integrate the arts with standards-based education programs.

U.S. -- Brazil Higher Education Consortia Program

The Department of Education announces the U.S.-Brazil Higher Education Consortia Program to support the formation of educational consortia of U.S. and Brazilian institutions. To meet this priority, the applicant must propose a project that supports cooperation in the coordination of curricula; the exchange of students, if pertinent to grant activities; and the opening of educational opportunities between the U.S. and Brazil. In order to be eligible for an award under this priority, the applicant in the U.S. must be a U.S. institution and the applicant in Brazil must be a Brazilian institution. The focus of the consortium can be an discipline.

The purpose of this grant program is to promote more than student exchange, it is also curriculum development as well as language and cultural preparation to promote student mobility. Students should be exchanged in the context of a common program of study or curriculum and should draw benefits from the added value of spending time abroad. The time abroad should count for their study within their academic major at their home institution and should not significantly increase their time to degree completion.

Amount: $240,000 (spread across four years)

Regional Arts & Culture Council General Support Grant Program (Portland)

The RACC General Support Grant Program aims to provide general financial support to arts organizations in Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas Counties, based on their artistic excellence, proven service to the community, administrative and fiscal competence and RACC grant compliance. The General Support Grant Program seeks to fund arts organizations and help provide a wide range of quality arts programming made available to the public. The minimum General Support Grant award is $7,000 for each year of the grant cycle.
